Ha Giang Loop: 3 Days vs. 4 Days — Which Route Should You Choose?

A kilometer-by-kilometer comparison of the 3D2N and 4D3N Ha Giang Loop routes, showing why the 4th day through Du Gia Valley changes the entire experience.

What the 3-Day Route Covers (And What It Skips)

On a 3D2N schedule (Ha Giang → Yen Minh → Dong Van → Ma Pi Leng → Ha Giang), Day 1 and Day 2 follow the classic northern high road through Quan Ba and Dong Van. However, on Day 3, immediately after crossing Ma Pi Leng Pass and cruising the Nho Que River, you must ride 155 kilometers directly back to Ha Giang City via Meo Vac and Mau Due (6 to 7 hours in the saddle) to catch your evening bus to Hanoi—skipping the tranquil Tay rice valley and waterfalls of Du Gia.

Why the 4-Day Route Is Our Gold Standard

Adding Day 4 breaks that long return leg in half. On Day 3, after Ma Pi Leng Pass and the Nho Que Canyon boat trip, you ride just 75 scenic kilometers south into Du Gia Village, arriving by mid-afternoon to swim in the forest waterfall and share a family dinner in a wooden Tay stilt house. On Day 4, you ride across the panoramic Lung Ho ridge back to Ha Giang City at an unhurried pace.
